Dec 6, 2010 - INDEX JAZZ LAUNCHES WEBSITE

After two years of planning, recording, writing, jamming, web design and production, www.indexjazz.com was launched. Our two debut records - Jerry Weldon's Don't Look Back and Index Jazz Holiday Collection - are selling very well and we're excited about next month's release of John Hart's album Comfort Zone. Compilations of tracks from jam sessions will be released regularly and Index Jams Volume 1 will be available in a few weeks. Index Jazz will feature the best voices on the NYC jazz scene. All tracks are produced, recorded and mixed in-house by studio veteran and jazz artist John Tendy.

Dec 2, 2010 - JERRY WELDON CD RELEASE

We're happy to announce the completion of jazz powerhouse Jerry Weldon's new CD "Don't Look Back." Jerry is one of the best known tenor players on the NYC scene. His regular Wednesday night at Showman's in Harlem, NY has been a packed house for years due to Jerry's popularity. The music is fun, hard swinging and honest. This CD captures all of that and more. In fact, the band came in to record after completing a solid week of gigs. Featuring Kyle Koehler on Hammond B3 and Rudy Petschauer on drums. Scheduled for release this month.

Dec 1, 2010 - INDEX JAZZ HOLIDAY COLLECTION VOL. 1 COMPLETED

When John Hart recorded his CD for Index, he was showing Akiko Tsuruga an idea he had about a mambo version of The Grinch. I said "let's record it." I knew it would be great and I'd certainly use it somewhere. So began a tradition of each band doing a holiday song that we could use on a future release. On Nov 30, 2010 I hosted one of our regular jam sessions, this time all holiday songs, to round out the collection. What makes this collection so special is that we're all friends and it sounds that way. We gig and perform with each other, sometimes on a daily basis, so at one club or another we're talking about what we're going to play at the next session. The collection features Jerry Weldon, John Tendy, Joe Magnarelli, Akiko Tsuruga, Kyle Koehler, John Hart, Rudy Petschauer, Steve Johns, Matt Chertkoff, Colby Inzer, Jerry Sokolov, MIke Hall and Tony Regusis.

Nov 26, 2010 - PAT BIANCHI JOINS INDEX JAZZ

B3 virtuoso Pat Bianchi will record his organ trio for Index Jazz in January 2011.

Nov 23, 2010 - INDEX JAMS COMPLETED

Index members love to get together for a regular jam session at the studio. After awhile I realized I had a few dozen BURNING tracks! These are takes from a few of those sessions and features a truly all-star lineup. The enthusiasm of the performers and the excitement of being a member of index is evident in every track. We usually end each session with sushi and talk about how the next session can't come soon enough. All tracks were performed in one take and live, as is the spirit of a jam session. But they sound so well-rehearsed because we play together in one setting or another almost every day. Personnel includes myself and Jerry Weldon on tenor saxophone, Joe Magnarelli on trumpet, John Hart on guitar, Akiko Tsuruga on Hammond B3, Brian Glassman and Mike Hall on bass, Rudy Petschauer and Steve Johns on drums. Scheduled for release Dec. 2010.

Nov 10, 2010 - MIKE HALL RECORDS FOR INDEX JAZZ

Mike Hall is one of the busiest session bass players in NYC. When not on the studio he's playing bass on Broadway or in a jazz club. He came to an Index jam session and brought a couple of his tunes. One of the tunes we recorded that day wound up being the Index theme! I asked him to do a quintet album of his originals. The band includes myself on tenor, Jerry Sokolov - trumpet, Tony Regusis - piano, Jim Mola - drums and Mike on bass. Scheduled for release spring of 2011.
